The Collective

Norwich Street Art Collective aims to be as diverse as possible, beginning with our official board members who differ in age, race, gender, and location— all stemming from different backgrounds to gain perspective from. As a collective, NSAC works together as a group of artists to support and promote other local artists in the community by holding events, working through a shared workspace, marketing their talents, and advocating for artists.
A diverse collective is especially important for artists because it aids in a sense of inclusive moral support, inspiring artists with their work. Marginalized artists may feel misunderstood, unsupported, or undervalued in their communities due to judgements. By maintaining a diverse collective, encouragement is shown through different representations which creates a new sense of belonging and acceptance.
Through an official collective, the freedom to creatively express yourself is encouraged, while ensuring that a responsible and respectful environment is kept intact. This is ensured for the individual’s, community’s, and city’s safety. Working in tandem with a collective also offers opportunities for new projects, more active roles in the community, and help with maintaining resources.
A group of minds work more seamlessly together to form new perspectives and ideas. An art collective works similarly, providing greater reaches and connections for artists through more artists. The shared connection between artists creates a safe space to share ideas and be fluid in developments as well as setbacks. The most influential works and ideas are built by sharing and experiencing other art, which an art collective encapsulates.
Specifically, NSAC utilizes its diverse community in Norwich to inspire artists who may have been marginalized by making its collective welcome to people of all differences and artistic talents. By having a collective at artists’ ready disposal, people are more likely to be open to the idea of the creation and display of art in their community as a stable and encouraging environment.
